Them Oracles is Tricksy!!
A city burns as we talk to the Oracle.

The remainder of the trip to the Oracle was worry free, though I expect each member of the ka-tet was rehearing in their own minds what they might say or ask of the Oracle (and what payment would be demanded). Aileen Delgado, having visited the Oracle once, had no intention of going again and remained with the horses. It took our inexperienced adventurers some time to bring the Oracle, discussing amongst themselves what is needed. The Oracle demanded to know their purpose, choosing Jonas as it’s medium. The group collaborated on a well worded question, knowing that to leave ambiguity was to invite unnecessary risk. Finally, question in hand, they asked the Oracle to show them the path to the Dark Tower and help them reach it.

The Oracle chose to be magnanimous, offering several options – the road to the Dark Tower, a weapon to face their enemies, knowledge of their enemy (and perhaps his/her weakness), or sanctuary – away from the horrors coming with the weakening of the Tower. Briefly torn, the group decides the most direct approach is best, asking for the path to the Dark Tower itself. Each is then struck with a vision – real or not remains a mystery. Jonas sees himself safely home, winning riches and, even more, his younger brother revived from the dead. Was the Oracle prophesying or promising? Vesp finds himself seeing the End of Days, the Dark Tower crumbled, the wastes of the worlds, and, a fleeting glimpse of a shadowy figure. Not The Enemy. No, this was someone familiar. Someone among his own ka-tet. A betrayer to their purpose. Will he be able to discover who it is before the end game? Azure sees herself flying over vast landscapes following a glowing line in the earth, over forests and towns, rivers and ruins, to the shining pinnacle of the Dark Tower. She strives to write it down while her memory of the vision is fresh, providing a map to their goal.

Having experienced the unearthly presence and twisted mind of the Oracle, the group sets off on their quest in earnest, shaken but determined. They reach a town destroyed by modern military weapons, the oily cloud of smoke being seen miles before they arrived. They set about finding survivors and a reason for the destruction of the town. They soon learn this is no normal army that came through, locating several bits of what can only be cybernetic parts of a robot army. And, in addition to the valuable commodity the town relies on for its livelihood, the men have been taken, to who knows where. The group nervously spends the evening becoming accustomed to just what it means to be a gunslinger in this far away place and what they are getting themselves into. As the sun sets on the ruins of the town, Vesp looks northward towards the departing army, a dangerous gleam in his eyes and a desire for violence surely in his heart.

The Worlds Backlash
To Oracle or To no Oracle

We watched Judastown burn, moving a safe distance from survivors to make camp and paliver. Aileen tells her story. Jonas and Vesp attempts to reach into the energy of this strange world, to divine the nature of the ka-tet’s quest. The not quite disastrous lash back left us fighting strange creatures and a new urgency to find answers.

A meeting with a group of traders, further emphasizing our inexperience in Gilead. Jonas seeking to trade for spices, and items of power, goes into a seizure. The scared traders actions nearly cause Azure and Vesp to eliminate them.

Now they are on their way to the Oracle which gave Aileen the impetus to unite the four. Will the Oracle know more? Will it be willing to help? And what price will it demand for such information? Will Vesp’s offer to pay the oracles price stand?

A Western Town
Succulent Long Pig

Our adventurers escaped the deserted beach finding a way back to their old lives and discovered things were not the same. Traveling between worlds leaves a mark, setting you apart from the mundane world. Our adventurers find themselves ignored, discounted, and quickly losing their grip on reality. But not everyone was ignoring them. Malevolent watchers with unknown intentions began to appear in greater frequency, sometimes seen, sometimes felt. And a mysterious woman arrives, bearing a cryptic message of destiny, as each unlikely hero is called upon to defend the center of all worlds, become champions of light.

Having little choice and feeling themselves compelled onward, each goes in search of a way to cross over, the thinnies. But the path between worlds is never easy and sometimes sacrifice is demanded. Vesp, a young military-minded man with a penchant for firearms, finds himself inexplicably staring down a bus at a busy intersection, the collision probably leaving little remains for the authorities as he is hurled bodily into some other place and time, to be joined soon after by the brave beauty, Azure, and the quirky little man with powers yet untapped, Jonas. As difficult as it is to leave behind all they knew, the challenge ahead would test their sanity and morality even more. A sleepy western town with an incongruous mixture of old world and new is discovered to be a den of cannibals, worshipping Judas the Deceiver and led by their sinister priest, Cy Snoodles. The ka-tet argues whether to attempt to leave peacefully or rain justice on the town – lead justice. The decision is made as the Judas Priest demands their surrender. Bullets fly filling the air with red mist and the sounds of a deadly mob turned into buzzard meat. But not before the heroes learn of another captive who must surely be the reason they’ve been delivered here. Deciding death is not enough, Azure begins to purge the town like a cankerous boil, setting fire to several buildings as they seek their fourth, recognizing the woman who had spoken to them before. As she is loosed from the cell where she was probably waiting to be the townsfolk’s next meal, she declares the town a den of evil that must be razed from existence.
